THE EXAMPLE JOB

A sign for
Willow & Wren Café.

One unlit fret-cut sign tray, 1,800 × 600 mm, with 60 mm returns and opal acrylic behind the lettering. The customer will collect it, so this example has no fitting charge.

Willow & Wren Café is fictional. All prices and rates shown are made up for this example. Use your own supplier prices and workshop rates.

The example sign in Tray Master. Lettering is mirrored because this flat pattern shows the rear machining side.

Start with what you will make.

Check the dimensions, material, finish and artwork. Review the sheet layout before pricing the job.

Keep the job together.

Save the design and costing in the same job. If the customer asks for a change, check its effect before preparing a revised quote.

01 / JOB INPUTS

Allow for the work,
as well as the material.

Open Costing, then Job Inputs. Enter the time and quantities for this job, including assembly and CNC work.

This job allows two hours for assembly and half an hour for CNC work. Your own time allowances will depend on the sign and your workshop.

Include the time around cutting.

The cutting estimate does not include setup, tool changes or drilling. Allow for the other workshop work when checking your CNC hours.

Match the quote to the job.

Add fitting and survey time when needed, including the number of people. For this collected sign, check that fitting has not been included by mistake.

02 / COMPANY COSTS

Check what the job
will cost you.

Use Company Costs to review purchase prices and workshop costs before deciding what to charge.

The example’s Company Costs view. These figures are for the signmaker’s own checks.

Check prices and rates.

Look for missing material prices. Check the purchased sheets, labour and machine rates against your own workshop setup.

Review the estimate.

Include the extras the job needs. Estimated profit helps you review the quote; actual costs can change as the work is made.

03 / CUSTOMER PRICE

Prepare the amount
the customer will see.

Open Customer Price. Check the charges, subtotal, VAT and total, then resolve any missing prices before issuing the quote.

Customer Price for the same fictional sign. Your customer charges are reviewed separately from your own costs.

Choose the customer document.

In PDF Reports, choose Summary Quote PDF or Detailed Quote PDF. Add your company and customer details, then preview the document.

Keep internal costs private.

Internal Cost PDF is for your own records. Check the selected document, details and figures before sending anything to the customer.

Follow the costing and quotation guide ↗

04 / THE CUSTOMER QUOTATION

A clear price,
ready to review.
